The Lives of Others

I sit on the subway and wonder what the other passengers are thinking, where they are going.

I pass people on the street and wonder whether they’re happy.

Then I wonder if it matters.

You might be interested in a magnificent movie by the same name as the title of your post. It won the 2006 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. In it, an officer in the East German Secret Police (Stasi) is transformed by the surveillance he is required to perform on a playwright and his girlfriend.
