I hear my neighbors through the walls and wonder what their lives are like.
I sit on the subway and wonder what the other passengers are thinking, where they are going.
I pass people on the street and wonder whether they’re happy.
Then I wonder if it matters.

In it, an officer in the East German Secret Police (Stasi) is transformed by the surveillance he is required to perform on a playwright and his girlfriend.
